Engine Hoists
How hard is it to pull out a motor?
I have an ’89 Firebird. I have never pulled a motor before, but now I need to do it since mine is not running properly. I will be getting a shop manual, and an engine hoist, but could you give me some advice as well as what is involved in taking the motor out? Thanks.
It is a 305 V8 TBI, by the way.
It sounds like you are on the right track. Here are some tips for you:
1) The few times I have done this it was easier to pull the engine and transmission at the same time and then un-bolt the transmission.
2) Get a large roll of masking tape. Use the tape to label your wires and where they go.
3) Take your time. Rushing the job will lead to mistakes that will be very hard to fix after the engine is back in the car.
